Battlefield 6's Relaxed Playlist Ignites Intense Debates Regarding Bots, XP Rewards, and Wait Times

Recently, Battlefield Studios launched a new playlist titled Relaxed Breakthrough. To put it simply, this option resembles the regular Breakthrough format but includes several notable changes:

  • Every squad includes just 8 real players, with the rest filled by 32 bots.
  • Activities done by human gamers grant full XP, while bot actions offer reduced XP.
  • Only two locations are available: Siege of Cairo and Empire State.
  • Features like Dogtags, achievements, and stat tracking have been turned off.

So essentially, the playlist delivers on its name: it's a laid-back version of Breakthrough. On the surface, one could assume it's a good idea, as it gives more options for players seeking different ways to have fun with the game. However, if video games has shown one thing, it's that you can't please everyone. In other words, many BF6 fans are mad.

Player Responses: Anger to Support

"People want human opponents. Avoid making the mistakes of your rivals," reads one reply to the official announcement. "Truly disappointing concept," says another. Meanwhile, on the Battlefield subreddit, a player remarks, "I have no idea where we are going with this game," and someone else lists everything they consider to be broken in the game: "Resolve glitches, fix drone glitch, fix IVF rockets, adjust aiming after sprinting, fix awful hit registration. We don't need this bot mode."

On the other hand, for every complaint, there are players explaining how much they're liking the recent addition. "It's enjoyable to warm up, real players prevent it from being a total farmfest but it's quite laid-back," reads one Reddit comment. "The community fails to see that there are gamers who actually go outside and don't play this game 24/7. Allow them to find a middle ground," adds another. One reply via social media explains that as they're "a parent gamer with limited time, this is perfect for me," and someone else praises the mode for "not being overcompetitive."

Constructive Concerns and Community Input

Despite the support, players have constructive reasons to complain about Casual Breakthrough. Some users have highlighted that it could increase queue times more extended for different playlists because of the large amount of options in the game already. On a similar note, some areas already encounter AI-filled matches in the existing playlists. It also seems a little backwards that the mode won't start without a required amount of real players, even though it focuses mostly on fighting AI opponents.

Finally, a major complaints is that a previous feature was meant to offer complete rewards, including AI matches, but that was removed when they tried to eliminate XP farming from the mode. Thus Casual Breakthrough seems like the community compromising in the middle, as per forum feedback. A different user labels this addition as the devs "dropping the ball significantly, I had great enjoyment in the first couple of days, why did they feel the need to adjust it?"

Future Prospects: Adjustments Be Made?

If Battlefield Studios has proven anything so far with Battlefield 6, it is that they're listening and responding to player input. Tasks being too difficult got fixed very quickly, as did the specific battle pass objectives. Chances are that, if their data indicates this new playlist is underperforming to their expectations, they will not hesitate to change it again.
