The British government is ready to advance with using the total value of immobilized Russia's funds to bolster the Ukrainian military campaign, Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer has stated.

In a shared declaration, the leaders of the Britain, the French Republic, and the Federal Republic of Germany emphasized that this joint measure would heighten pressure on Russian President Vladimir Putin and urge the Russian Federation to engage in negotiations.

They clarified that the initiative would be implemented in close cooperation with the US.

British sanctions have blocked in excess of £25bn of Russian resources since Russia launched its full-scale invasion against Ukraine in 2022. But, until now, funds allocated to Ukraine using Russia's assets had solely been taken from earnings and returns earned on them.

Sir Keir informed Ukraine's leader Volodymyr Zelensky that the UK, the French Republic, and the Federal Republic of Germany were in agreement in their aim to push forward toward using the total worth of the immobilized Russian sovereign assets to end the war.

He added that additional restrictions over the next period would heighten the tension on Moscow.

This declaration comes after European officials met in the Danish capital last week to discuss using immobilized Russia's holdings for a €140 billion credit to the Ukrainian nation.

Last month, US President Donald Trump urged international partners to confiscate or otherwise use immobilized Russia's funds, based on news outlets.

The worth of seized Russian funds in the EU is estimated to be approximately €211bn.

Russia launched widespread aerial attacks across Ukraine on Friday, leading to blackouts in large parts of Ukraine's capital, Kyiv, and eight other regions.

Several persons were lost their lives and at least 20 people were hurt in the attack, authorities in Ukraine reported.

In a message on social media after the attack, Zelensky wrote that the strategic strike targeted public and utility structures.

"What is required is not empty words but decisive action - from the America, EU, and the G7 - in delivering air defence systems and implementing restrictions," he stated.

"All penalty impositions undermines Russia's war machine," Zelensky noted, in a separate post.

Additionally that day, Zelensky stated to the press he would encourage Sir Keir to enter the PURL scheme, under which alliance members buy military equipment from the America to give to the Ukrainian forces.

While commending the United Kingdom's strong support for Ukraine, he said it should send a clear signal that it would participate in the initiative, as well as apply additional measures on Moscow.
