The Reform UK leader Accuses Teachers of ‘Indoctrinating Children’ on Race Issues

Nigel Farage has asserted that teachers would go on strike shortly after a success at the polls for his party, charging that they are “harming young minds” by instructing students that African-Caribbean youth are oppressed and white children oppressors.

At a gathering for a private US Christian college, Farage outlined his perspective on British schools, claiming that the “Marxist left” had “now in control of our education system”.

“I expect a teachers’ strike soon after winning the next general election,” he remarked during a Q&A session.

“They are poisoning our kids. They are telling them to be ashamed of their country. They are telling an eight-year-old black child that he is oppressed and little Oliver, who is white, who is eight that he is a perpetrator. They create division, instead of fostering unity. They are feeding this negative culture.”

Reacting to Farage’s claims, Daniel Kebede dismissed the notion that the schools were under Marxist influence as “absurd”. Kebede noted that industrial action must relate to teachers’ terms and conditions, and doubted whether the party would target these immediately upon entering government.

“The politician has crafted his political career on dog-whistle politics and currently, like Trump, he is targeting educators and their organizations for a fight,” the union leader said.

“This is highly reckless. I don’t – and nor does my union – push critical race theory as he claims … If he were to lead the government he would undermine state services, including education … and he would be a disaster for education and children.”

Reform, which tops surveys by about 10 points, has provided limited specifics on its educational plans and does not appear to have appointed an education spokesperson.

Nonetheless, Farage’s remarks indicated the party would overhaul the educational framework. Farage declared: “We face an enormous task with education – absolutely herculean. Moreover, it won’t happen quickly; it requires years, a long-term effort to reform.”

He stated that gen Z was more open to critical thinking, but millennials were “absolutely hopeless”.

Paying tribute to a conservative activist, Farage said: “All I want education to do to teach critical thinking – to instruct people that multiple perspectives exist and they should decide for themselves as opposed to what’s happening now where one is virtuous and one is evil. It’s a massive job in both Britain and America.”

The party has conflicted with a major educators’ organization, after the union leader labeled them “far right and racist” and described the leader as “a cheap imitation”.

The politician has charged the union head with being “a self-declared Marxist” … an individual intent that young minds be corrupted through education, their thinking tainted regarding national issues” and maintained that the union is trying to indoctrinate teenagers against Reform.

Roughly a million individuals work in schools in the UK, with educators comprising half and the others teaching assistants and support staff. The leading teachers’ organization has hundreds of thousands of members.

Countrywide walkouts over teacher pay and conditions in recent years led to significant interruptions in educational institutions and millions of days of lost learning for students.

At the US event, the Reform leader also vowed to promote the digital courses of the Christian college in the UK. He stated such groups were “part of the fightback”, adding that: “I mean this. I’ll assist garner hundreds of thousands, if not millions of young people to these educational programs. I pledge this now and I will follow through.”

The college, a religious educational establishment, provides complimentary classes. According to its online description: “A scientific, literary, theological, political, and moral education is vital for well-being and to perpetuate the blessings of freedom. The college furnishes these excellent programs for no charge to every interested learner.”
