Unbowed Celtic's manager does not fear being fired yet supporters display anger after loss.
Wilfried Nancy stated he had no concerns about the sack, asserting, “I believe we are really close to a turnaround,” even after moving dangerously close to the chopping block with a comprehensive defeat by their arch-rivals.
A Second-Half Collapse Leads to Old Firm Defeat
The Hoops were ahead their oldest rivals at the break but a collapse after the break allowed Danny Röhl’s team to pull level on points with the defending league title holders. Nancy, who was appointed from Columbus Crew, has now overseen six setbacks in his last eight matches.
“There is unity at the club,” insisted Nancy.
Asked directly about whether he was concerned, he said: “That’s not my focus. I concentrate on finding ways to get the team to be good on details.
Supporters' Anger On Display
The fans displayed their anger – aimed at the dugout and directors – by gathering at Parkhead. Club directors would be most likely to re-appoint the former boss, who steered the club during a caretaker period before Nancy was hired, if the Frenchman were sacked.
“The outcomes [that leads to pressure]. And that’s the truth for the moment. However by saying this is the reality, that is not a sign that I am a defeatist guy. Not at all. My point is we are really close, really, really close to reverse our form.”
Nancy’s Persistent Belief
Nancy continues to cling to the fact his team show good levels for one half at a time. In fact, but for poor finishing they could have been more than 1-0 up. “I saw enough except the fact that we haven’t scored our chances,” he said. “I know that we lost, but I must remain balanced.
“The standard we had at certain moments was really, really, really high. That happened. I could not speak so positively if it was different. That is the reason, when it comes to wins, I noted it's a repeating pattern. That’s why I feel a change is coming to getting it right. Right now: details, details, details.”
“We produced plenty of positives that we did, once more. But now is consistency. My outlook would change the same. Therefore I am convinced the team can to get back on track.”
Opposition Reaction Response
Danny Röhl played down talk of a championship push despite what seemed like a huge result. “We take it game by game, then we can develop a challenge,” he said. “The confidence in the team is outstanding.”
